A successful green program starts and ends with management. With management on board, the greening process has a considerable edge over staff-led initiatives. Sales and reservations are integral in increasing revenue or preventing market share erosion by promoting and educating potential customers on the hotel’s green initiatives. Simple policies can also generate dramatic cost savings with $0 investment.
- Create a green team

- Use a minimum of 30% post consumer recycled content paper
- Shut off computers at night
- No screen savers (hibernate or sleep mode instead)
- Consider allowing staff to telecommute
- Ensure all staff is knowledgeable about the hotel’s green initiatives to sell the hotel better
